Prague – transport

Public transport in Prague

Public transport in Prague uses a network of three underground lines (A, B, C), connected to numerous bus and tram lines. The daily traffic for public transport starts at 4:30 AM and terminates at midnight. The underground is closed between 0:01 AM and 4:29 AM for routine maintenance. Night transport throughout Prague is covered by several routes of night buses and trams. The amount of public transport available at night is limited, therefore it is recommended to check the night routes in advance.

For transport through the city centre or to the hotel or other accommodation, it is possible to comfortably use the dense network of the underground, trams or buses (there is a timetable on each bus/tram stop). A Prague speciality, which is also an interesting tourist attraction, is the cable car to Petřín (where you can visit the observation tower, nearby observatory and glass maze or enjoy a pleasant walk to Prague Castle).

To use the public transport in Prague a valid marked ticket is required (a transfer ticket for 20 CZK is valid for 60 minutes - from marking at the start of your journey - for working days and 90 minutes at weekends and holidays).

Airports, railway and bus stations – international and intercity transport

The Prague main airport Ruzyně is located several kilometres from the city centre. Connection to the centre is provided by a regular bus service, which is connected to the underground station on line A, Dejvická. An airport minibus regularly goes to the airport from Náměstí Republiky (underground station on line B). Furthermore it is possible to use a taxi service, which is more convenient in the case of a large amount of luggage. In this case it is necessary to anticipate a cost of 500 – 600 CZK for a one way journey (the number of peoples per car is limited by the capacity of taxi car).

Railway stations for international transport are supported by information offices with services offering timetable information and ticket and seat reservation purchase are all connected to underground stations – Hlavní nádraží (exit from the underground station of the same name on line C directly to the railway station), Nádraží Holešovice (again exit from the underground station of the same name on line C directly to the railway station) and some international trains also stop or start from Nádraží Smíchov (one of the exits from the underground station Smíchovské nádraží on line B goes directly to the railway station).

Central bus station is located in Florenc, which you can easily reach by underground (line C and B, station Florenc, where the exit to the bus station is sign posted).
